Tonight, a lyric popped into my head and I had no idea where it came from. All I had to go off was the knowledge that the singer was female and two words: “na na na na na na na, na na na na na na na na, oi oi oi oi oi!” I also knew that the song was somewhere in my library.

My first guess was The Ting Tings. A quick search revealed I have only two of their songs, “Shut Up and Let Me Go” and “That’s Not My Name,” neither of which contain the lyric. I noticed I also have a couple of dj lobsterdust Ting Ting mashups, and I realized the lyric was sampled. After a quick search of my lobsterdust files I concluded it must have come from a Girl Talk song. I listened to most of All Day, and then moved on to Feed the Animals. I finally found the song I had been looking for, “Let Me See You,” the 11th track from the aforementioned album. I grabbed another lyric (“how many no-money boys are crazy, how many boys are raw?”). A quick search finally brought me to the original song, “Boyz” by M.I.A. This whole process took about 30 minutes and I feel very accomplished.
